Sound Art, 3/1/09 Entry

Upon reading a user guide for Reason, titled Reason 4 Power, I have come to better understand both audio vocabulary and metaphors used within this software and others. Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to see Reason in use through a demonstration showing its many capacities, but this program is so extensive that it became difficult to retain the information. However, when recapping the the controls, options, and processes in writing and through visuals of the screen controls to explain its purpose in simple terms I am more clear about different terms in sound art, such as frequency, waveform, envelope, amplitude, attack, tone, filters, and more. Experiencing these words in context and at a slow and steady pace in the text provided for an enlightening experience. From this point on I will be able to apply the metaphors more effectively when using Audacity, Reason, Soundtrack Pro, Final Cut Pro, and Max MSP.
