Audio Interviews, March

Moving forward in the development of an audio interview project, I used Audacity sound editing software to refine the recordings I have acquired over the last three months through a zoom mic and handy cam. Through these recordings I came to understand the effectiveness of various microphones and recording devices, learning that the audio reception on a handy cam also picks up the motor within the camera creating a high frequency hum behind the voices. In response to this unforeseen set-back, I was taught by a peer to equalize the recording, eliminating all frequencies above 1,000 in an attempt to eliminate white noise. In addition to equalizing, I also applied a normalizing filter to even out the amplitude of the track to match its highest level. I also worked with fading the sound in and out, cropping silences, and eliminating unwanted clicks/noises. These simple adjustments improved the audio on all of my interviews, enhancing the end product of my video project, and in turn, presenting more possibilities in working with audio as the central component to an animated video, as opposed to falling back on visuals, with which I am far more experienced.
