Sound Art, 2/10 Entry

Today I worked with soldering and creating recording devices for the first time. In working with a piezo disk, sound cable wire, soldering gun, and jack we assembled a contact mic, which creates a noise whenever something makes contact with it. The process was fascinating and I now plan to work with soldering and transmitting noises through tactile processes. The result is an abstract sound which will work well with my body of work. At this point, the plan is to take a more abstract approach towards developing a soundtrack for my existing and future visual work. The audio that currently accompanies my work is the human voice responding to questions in a formal interview, so the tying element for this project could be abstracted sounds as related to their thoughts. For example, cracking noises to suggest tension, moving water to suggest life, hollow wind for emptiness, etc. An additional component to the piezo contact mic tool would be to use a piezo film as a flexible 'mic', as opposed to a stiff disk, to utilize more surface area when recording.
